Robotic follicular unit extraction in hair transplantation.

چکیده
BACKGROUND In recent years, there has been a shift toward minimally invasive procedures. In hair transplantation surgery, this trend has manifested with the emergence of follicular unit extraction (FUE). Recently, a robot has been introduced for FUE procedures. OBJECTIVE To determine the transection rate of a robotic FUE device. MATERIALS AND METHODS The authors discuss the procedure, technical requirements, optimal candidates, advantages, and disadvantages of robotic FUE compared with the standard ellipse. RESULTS Optimal candidates for robotic FUE are those with dark hair color who can sit for 45 to 120 minutes and are willing to shave a large area for donor harvesting. The main advantages of robotic FUE compared with the standard ellipse are its minimally invasive nature and the lack of a linear scar. The average transection rate with the robot to date is 6.6% (range, 0.4%-32.1%). CONCLUSION The robot is a new and innovative method for FUE hair transplantation of which hair transplant surgeons should be aware.

Commentary on robotic follicular unit extraction in hair transplantation.
In their excellent article, “Robotic Follicular Unit Extraction in Hair Transplantation,” Avram and Watkin give a review of the salient aspects of the newly evolving field of robotic hair transplantation. A significant contribution of this article is the data on transection rates. The authors found that the mean transection rate of robotic extraction is 6.6% in their 20 cases. This compares fav...
متن کاملRobotic Follicular Unit Graft Selection.
BACKGROUND The use of robotic technology to harvest grafts in a follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant procedure has been available since 2011. A new capability of the robotic system is to harvest follicular units based on the number of hairs they contain to increase the hair/wound yield. OBJECTIVE To assess the benefit of follicular unit graft selection during a robotic FUE procedu...
متن کاملEffect of Follicular Unit Extraction on the Donor Area
BACKGROUND Hair restoration surgery is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedure in men. The main aim of the study was to know the effect of follicular unit extraction (FUE) follicular unit extraction (FUE) on donor area in terms of hair mass/density. METHODS Ten male patients undergoing hair restoration by FUE were included. In each patient, ten boxes of 1 cm2 each were ...

Aim: Numerous non-surgical methods and surgical options are available for the solution of baldness in the practice. Technology provides mighty weapons in this field. Thus, individualized solutions are best carried out with well-trained and qualified practitioners. Here, a modification of follicular unit extraction, direct hair implantation is introduced with previously licensed unique pens. Met...
متن کاملFollicular unit extraction: minimally invasive surgery for hair transplantation.
BACKGROUND Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is performed using large numbers of naturally occuring individual follicular units obtained by single-strip harvesting and stereo-microscopic dissection. Donor wound scarring from strip excision, although an infrequent complication, still concerns enough patients that an alternative solution is warranted. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this paper is ...
